MomentBackup & Google Drive
What MomentBackup is
MomentBackup is a personal backup and recovery app for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It saves a browsable history of your files on an external drive, a NAS or network share, or your own S3-compatible cloud bucket. On Windows, it can also keep a recoverable image of your whole computer on a local or external drive, or a connected NAS. MomentBackup is software you run on your own computer. No account is needed to download or install it. A free MomentBackup account is needed only when you start the trial inside the app; that account is not used to connect Google Drive. There is no hosted MomentBackup backup storage.
Existing backups on Google Drive
MomentBackup can open an existing File History backup on Google Drive for browsing and recovery when Google grants the app access to its files. New backups to Google Drive are unavailable. For new cloud backups, use your own S3-compatible bucket. Connecting Google Drive is optional.
How MomentBackup uses Google Drive
When you open an existing backup, MomentBackup reads its index and lists the backup files it can access. It downloads the files needed to browse saved snapshots, check backup data, or restore files to your computer. It does not upload new backups or delete old backups from Google Drive.
Access depends on the permissions Google has granted. The
drive.file permission covers files created by the app and files
you explicitly share with it. It does not grant access to every file in
your Drive. MomentBackup does not read your Drive activity or account settings.
Google permissions

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.filegives access to app-created files and files you share with the app. The permission can allow changes to those files. MomentBackup currently uses it to read existing backup files for browsing and recovery. -
openidandemailidentify the connected Google account. Your email address is shown as a label inside the app on your own computer. It is not used for marketing, is not added to any mailing list, and is not shared with anyone.
How your Google data is handled
- Backup access happens directly between the app on your computer and Google. Backup contents are not sent to MomentBackup servers.
- It does not sell, rent, or share your Google data, and does not use it for advertising.
- No human at MomentBackup reads your Google data. The app accesses backup files to provide browsing and recovery.
Where your sign-in and data live
Authorization happens directly between your computer and Google. The access and refresh tokens are stored in your operating system's keychain on your own device. MomentBackup never transmits them to us. To open an encrypted backup, you need its passphrase or recovery key. You can disconnect Google Drive from within the app, which removes the stored tokens.
Limited Use disclosure
MomentBackup's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
